Take The Flag – Commando

Lab Work – NES Commando

Top 4 NES – Commando, Commando – Take That Flag

Thanks to @NES_Longplay for the walk-through/play-through. This was a late add, should’ve been out sometime in ’20… but, you know… today is the day it gets published to no fault of our own. Nor the scheduling mechanism.

To no avail, the stars aligned etc., Commando became reality. Game play is fantastic, painful long arduous process, leading to a never ending cycle of failed attempts. Unless of course you wait 20+ years, you’ve got yourself the ole’ map published on the web somewhere… and a cause of energy drink, coffee or tea. You might need a lot more, but let’s live big; in the moment. Believe you me, wish we had the map way back when. Although, have to admit, this game was one of those games that never ended… hence the need for walk-through. Commando is still on the list of ‘have not’s, meaning it’s still on the bucket list of games to dig up, play and complete the game. That’s where we live you today, 20 years in the making.

Apple MacBook Pro Mid’18 Board and Battery

Macbook Pro Battery Swap

Lab Work – MBP Issues

Apple MBP Battery and Logicboard Issues/Failure – We takedown, refresh and reboot this MBPBattery and Logic Board Failure – Complete teardown, replace and reboot.

Update, matter of fact, primary machine we are running that latest applications and code on. Quick update, mid ’18 Macbook Pro crashed via upgrade from Mojave/Catalina to BigSur. This ‘upgrade’ went along with the mid summer/late summer updates via WWDC. Anyway, we go through boot issues, kernel panic, reinstall post reformat MAC Journaled to AFPS… and finally installer packages, boot scripts, an install of Ubuntu 21 sans mouse or keyboard functionality and more. They say pictures are worth a thousands or more words, so let’s take a peek. Oh, and don’t forget ‘csrutil’ enable and disable for unwanted apps, native apps and clearing system integrity ‘issues’. This command only works when you run Recovery Mode, Terminal Utility… we can just leave that there for another day. One other item to note, this is all MacOS specific, assuming your running a MacOS alt OS on a Windows (PC), Linux, Linux Alternatives and/or VM, downloads are available and are similar when unpacking the root cause.

  • Flash Old Version of MacOS and Installer Package
  • Create USB Install via Terminal
  • Etcher
  • Check OS Version (if possible) MacOs Version Compatibility
  • Reset PRAM, Run Diagnostics, Internet Recovery, Target Disk to Move existing files; all there, just make sure you know what version of MacOS. If you don’t, click the ‘Apple’ Icon at the top/left -> Select About This Mac -> Overview. This assumes you have a running version of MacOS. Or check the Apple Product# on the underside of your Macbook Pro and work forward…
  • MacOS Startup KeyBoard Combinations
  • Diagnose Error Codes -1008F, Address Overheating and Fan Control
  • Apple Support thread specific to -1008f
  • Remove Device from iCloud – Find Device, Disable AFPS Admin Security Settings
  • Backup Drive to external storage device
  • Handy Drive SanDisk Drive
  • Clean/Remove Drive, Remove AFPS Drive/Volume(s)
  • Internet Recovery High Sierra, MacOS and Installer Package (Pre El Capitan, Yosemite or Lion)
  • MacOS Mojave
  • MacOS High Sierra
  • Boot MacOS Install, Reinstall Existing Apps, Install Catalina working patches, updates
  • Install New Apps, Settings and Remove unwanted settings as it relates to latest OS
  • Maintain existing MacOS sans MacOS OS Upgrades or Forced Updates, Uncheck installation automation for all apps, requiring system to be manually updated
  • Bootcamp Install, Flash/Install WIN10, Throw-out old server (Z400)
  • ISOs – MS – WIN10.iso, Ubuntu – Ubuntu 21.10
  • With the addition of MacOS Server

Key takeaways, note make/model, year, shipped quarter, chipset(s) and chip security settings… if your computer is locked, check iCloud device status, remember install package pre/post logic board changes. We chose this routs since all logic boards for this particular machine have been out of stock and remain out of stock for this particular model… hmmm wonder why? No need to replace the battery just yet… may have to on the second go around.

When I get a chance, we will post a few pictures of WIN10 running in Boot Camp, Ubuntu 21 running with keyboard or mouse support, and other images for MacOS Server etc. As usual leave a comment below, let us know what you’re thinking?

Fan favorite, Check out Dogeminer or Dogeminer v2; don’t forget to save your game.

When’s the last time you played Dogeminer 2? Dogeminer? Not forcing you to play Dogeminer v2(maybe because I don’t need more people on the Doge servers)! But, we are saying you should play Doge or Doge 2… Gone are the days of app crashing, progress or game loss. The best part of this particular game, is the ability to save a downloadable file for another day. Better screenshots next time! These Dogeminer v2 should do for now. Doge 2 is on the very short list of online games we cover: Dogeminer, Penguin Flight, SuperTux, SuperTuxCart, Drug Wars… the usual suspects.

Lab Work – BurmPy & R

Mentioned a few weeks back, almost seems more than a month ago now… we have a few things ‘on the bench’ i.e. work bench; burmpy.com and our R Programming deep dive.

No need to equip the pitchforks for this Burmese Python. As our educational series goes, we want to add Python and R to the mix. These two languages are ‘on the bench’ now, meaning we are adding to the site every day. One of which, both will be available via our Github site “borg2borg” – burmPy and RProject. Caveat, ((good news)) we’ve started to convert burmPy to it’s future ‘home’ in our educational series burmpy.com. This entity will also carry on the TWBS Bootstrap test case, using Bootstrap v.5. So, more to come on that in the coming weeks/months. Keep your eyes pealed.

More pictures are coming, please excuse the mess… shifting a our Github code and ghists are always available, unfortunately, working in the background to finish Burmpy screenshots, cleaned up and prepped for consumption.

ASCII Code Chart

Artwork – ASCII Art

ASCII Characters and Binary code…. got to love this stuff.

Back in the day, late 90’s ‘we’ (I) would spend hours creating the best ascii art there was to offer. Days of the past, I know. But still, fun while it lasted. Here’s a listing of all the characters and binary codes to make your next pic of ASCII artwork. Don’t be shy, don’t keep your ASCII art to oneself!

RAW ASCII (has spacing issues, we know… #$#$@ browser… may repost if it doesn’t work)

Oh, and before I forget, we aren’t talking about ‘ascii’ generator artwork… we are talking the good, the bad and the unusual character art. My personal fav is the local “Skunk Ape”, “Grassman” or “Alien ‘Big Foot’ Hunter”. Just a few I recall from back in the day. Rules were broken below when ‘creating’ these ascii images. ((SHOUT OUT)) to the artist who converted these TUX and Dwight images to ASCII. The TUX ‘piece’ may need to find it’s way onto a t-shirt or hat.

borg2borg v7

Borgs Unit

Borg 2 Borg A Bootstrap Framework

Lab Work – Web Work

Bootstrap’n Journey number 412 version 7

Need to get this out of my brain for awhile now, seeing that version 5 has been out for sometime. Regardless of time, it’s been posted to the web. We have three offerings at this point, giving 3 different flavors of Bootstrap:

The sites stated above are meant to be reference, or reference material for that matter. The goal is to have working templates for anyone to use and help others learn said code e.g. PHP.

PLEASE NOTE – we have in most cases, some are actively being moved… however, we are moving away from Github. Two, we will also be converting all public/private/secret Ghists so that code can be consumed ‘publicly’ here in the near future… the goal is to provide coding examples, educate and share languages and techniques with the masses. So, you’ll see coding examples presented in the following manner or Bootstrap html treatment

<h1> - PHP Print Example<h1>
<h3> - Calculate and Print<h3>

<?php print(1 + 2) * 3; }?>
Here is a quick PHP print statment, utilizing the Bootstrap code treatment for the purposes of an example, the console will calculate and print the calculation to the browser.

Again, for probably 2 months now or so, we’ve converted all Github/Ghists to a companion file within the site folder. Next step will include a conversion to a database. At least that is the goal, assuming time is available. Same for Django, this might be ‘jumping the shark’ as I want to get a working version of Django up on the ole’ web-server and see what we can do from there. I guess the overarching goal is to offer language/code reference material and Bootstrap examples. So, lots of work out there, ton of things to do, clearly… not enough time in the world to work on side projects. We will get there one day at a time. Enjoy!

Lab Work – 1Fyr

**UPDATED** 1FYR Update

Like many things in this world, it was time to tune up 1fyr.com… Needed a code clean up, removed the WP jargon and bloat and added the Bootstrap framework to this site. Made for a few nice updates, show/hide on the latest fire, archived videos presented in a more favorable fashion and the Jumbotron…

While the yard is being worked on per say, (2 months now) the fire concept has been put on ice to say the least. Again, which aloud me to refocus on the site, code tweaks and more. We kept it simple using TWBS v3. Once we get the backyard up and running again, we will post videos… in the meantime, it is what it is…

We’ll keep this post short and brief… a few months ago a calculator showed up… connections all busted, looked like a pet got to the internals. Anyway, a few soldered connections, a new battery and the this little piggy is like new again! Easy work, no major issues with the main board, case or display. Quick fix.

Left the little ‘piglet’ sticker on there, it gives this old calculator a new look, making it nerd tech approved.

iRobot Roomba 900 Series

Lab Work – iRobot Back At It

Got broken robot? We do! Some might say that’s the worst! Let’s get after it, iRobot – 900 Series is on the bench.

Let’s get this thing fixed. The beautiful part of iRobot/Roomba products (for now), it’s easy fixings! Unless the board is fried, the main housing is smashed to pieces or plastics are wasted. Even then, (this one in particular took a hard spill) parts are fairly easy to come by. The key is to source, clean, install and maintain what you do have. Most, if not all of this particular Roomba was fine, a good cleaning at the end of the repair was worth its weight in gold.

For those of you who don’t maintain electronics, robots etc. weekly, month or ‘NEVER’… friendly reminder, whatever the electronic might be, they do yeoman’s work if you care for the machine after every one or two uses. Also, the more you maintain, the less you throw out. Remember, No pain, no gain.

A few tools to call out below, overall again noting the comment above, these are fairly simple to fix… for now. This is a huge plus for iRobot

  • Philips Screwdriver (Rechargeable Drill* DeWalt 20v)
  • iRobot – Brushes, collector rollers, caster wheel and filter
  • Cleaner – Windex
  • Cleaner – Sprayway
  • Compressed Air

1FYR Update

1Fyr.com, Weilding and More

1Fyr

Lab Work – 1fyr, Weilding and Other Work

Update to follow, revamping the site using TWBS… Keep an eye out for that shortly. In any case, back to the test case here, SOLVED. Let’s bring you up to speed…

(<< REWIND) We were looking for ways to tinker around with our cameras, light/exposure and to enhance our film at dusk. Dusk, post twilight being the most painful of the bunch. You may not know, but some of the best light is during twilight, 'sunset light' here on the coast has some of the most dramatic colors, farmscapes, landscapes, hardscapes, shapes and light 'texture' capture images or videos. Texture being those subtle and stark contrasts of color. (>> FF) Experiments continue and share a little fun while we are at it. Campfire, music, food… what more could you ask for?

As you will see, fires are unpredictable, especially at dusk. We enjoy the process (build, stoke, enjoy and extinguish a fire) every month or more. Fire up a few burgers, grilled sandwiches, hotdogs and smores, if we are lucky. VOILA! INTERWEB CONTENT!

I’d like to see us get to a point where we can post more videos, more often, weather permitting. Anyhow, the goal of this test was to capture and correct lighting affects. We use Adobe Premiere (Not A Sponsor) and share with you via the interwebs. We’ll post some Premiere content in next quarter or so. That might make some good content as the video/editing process is a hit or miss process as a noob. You know the sunlight, sun angle, twilight and how/what device captured the subject; meaning what device or camera was used to capture said subject. We chose fire, of course. Caveat, (loophole) we don’t see snow here in the South… Snow can be fun to film. All too often I forget/fail to mention the rainy season as well. Pre/Post rain storms can create dramatics, drama that’s what we need!

Before I move onto the section subject of this posting (yes, side tangent…) Don’t forget to check out 1fyr.com.

Next test case will include steel, torches and welders, yet to be purchased… Still trying to iron out what that might look like on ‘film’. But we have a few contenders to start, need to fix the campfire tool set. Specifically the shovel has all but worn through its welds and sits in two. Campfire brush is worn out to say the least, adding that to the refresh pile. Campfire grilling surface (an old repurposed baking rack) might need a little attention as well. There are more, but hopefully we’ve captured your attention.

Thought we would share our little monthly experiments with you all, enjoy! Don’t forget we are encouraging you to sign on and post on Mbemo – Welders. Let us know what you use to tool around i.e. LE 140 or some of those Harbor Freight Titanium 200 or Chicago Electric – Magnetic Welding Holder jobbers… Perhaps, more importantly ‘WHAT NOT TO USE’ cause it’s garbage!

Lastly, we will probably review some gear, welders, torches, protective clothing etc etc. Leaving you with a cliff hanger of sorts. More to come…

Top Gun NES

NES – Top Gun Playthrough @snapbackWill

Lab Work – NES Games And Play-Throughs

@Snapbackwill, check out Snapback… this guy made it past Mission 1. What a nightmare! Maybe 80’s nostalgia to me or that real-life shooting pain in your hands (flashback)… you awaken, clinching your hand when recalling the horror of Top Gun.

Landing was such a nightmare, same for game play. A nightmare only an 80’s child can recall after hour upon hour of wasted time trying to land the d#&@ aircraft on any mission, if you made it past Mission 1. Check out @nintendoComplete below, great play through…

Check out @NintendoComplete as well (I know I’ve mentioned @NintendoComplete’s channel before), shares the ultimate kick to the gut, this play-through is pure genius (no voice over, just the game and all of its glory). Glory of which I never had. The game still to this day, remains one of my favorite games besides may be Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!, Contra, Track & Field II, Kung Fu, Duckhunt. Hell there are to many games for a Top 10. Don’t forget Friday the 13th, same for @lordkayoss – “Howdy Folks, LK on the Tube…”. This guy gets it. Great narrative, game play, tips/tricks for Friday the 13th and more. Give his YT channel a look, subscribe, click the bell. You know the drill.

I don’t recall the issues with the other “Punch-Out” games in the series. But this game was and still is awesome. I just remember thinking, what is this? Who is Mac? Mike Tyson? What a game! Additionally, @SummoningSalt Punch-Out! is at 4.77M views or more by now. YouTuber doesn’t get knocked down until Sandman, some 11 characters deep in the game ~16:50 min mark. Contra NES|SNES

C & Super C NES

Lab Work – NES Contra

@Peg (3.5M views) makes quick work of Contra… It’s been sometime, may be 20+ years since I’ve seen Contra or played myself. Might be one of my top 3 of 10 NES games of all time. Honestly, the video is pure gold… and it pains me to say it, I was never very good at video games.

Super C (NES), Street Fighter 3 (SNES/Dreamcast), Soul Calibur (Dreamcast) were different. I didn’t have time as a kid, and the time I earned to play was pure torture! College, sure… we had all the time in the world to waste on FIFA, Soul Calibur, SSX Tricky, Golden Eye, Mario Kart and more.

Ah, one other item to note here, I think there are only a few games that remind me of OG (Original Gamer) Games (of which I played, so there is much smaller number of games to notate). Yes, this is subjective and limited to the games I could play around town. Contra is one of those, post arcade, post Pong, early at home gaming systems. NES only, Track & Field | T&F 2, Super Contra, Excitbike, Mario (Super Mario 1/2 & 3), Duckhunt, RBI Baseball, Hockey, Tecmo Bowl/Super Tecmo Bowl, Zelda, Link, Double Dragon, Kungfu (previous posts), Tetris. Didn’t have time to go over the Sega or Jaguar systems. Some other day, in some future land… There are far to games to remember, count, rank for which one or 100 are in the top 10. Just wanted to cover a few games that might spark an interest. Finally, for the record, this subjective of course, I’m sure you have your reasons for listing other games, fighting, first-person shooters or beat’em up games. Please share!

Finally, I’ll continue to post updates here, more NES, SEGA, SNES games and the likes. We will try arcade, computer games as well, assuming there is YouTube content to cover. Only reason I say this, is simply access to video content for games I don’t have. The goal will be simple, post a few games here and there, starting with the games I’m most familiar with and so on. I’ll try and stay out of the weeds… All joking aside, after losing so many d*(# times… This feels almost cathartic, a purge It did take practice, time and patience. 2 of 3 took time and with time, time heals all. Or I guess you take your licking and keep trying.

In the meantime, sit back and relax, enjoy… enjoy the pain, the torment, cause I’ve been at this for days… Literally, days. Nothing but borrowed time; borrowed not wasted! Link above will get you your very own Betaflight configurator via Chrome extension.

Like most things, there are more ways to make your cake and eat it. The Chrome extension is helpful when bouncing back-and-forth between systems/releases/drones etc. I run Big Sur MacOS, Ubuntu Linux and a Win Server 7… it’s handy here, as the config remains the same, helps to maintain a certain sense of sanity. Especially when you’re a NOOB. Two, from time to time, I run my Win7Server via MS Remote Desktop or Linux instance via Oracle’s Virtual Box. One advantage might be number of USB ports available… as you know, most MacBook Pros are limited to 3 of 4 USB-C ports. Unless you run usb ports, which I don’t care for (B.S. but that is for another day). Anyhow, regardless of how you run Betaflight, be aware of the nuances, versioning and pitfalls with each new iteration or release. Take notes, take screenshots, vlog about it… anything to help you remember the ‘deltas’ (change) over time. These will come in handy the next time you crash or repair your drones. Notes and support can be found here: Betaflight – Github Notes/Docs Moreover, issues came up when I swapped AIO boards, soldering power and reconfig’ing modes. For more information, I posted more about the config, various configs like EmuFlight and BLHeli, look for 8/17/2020 post – Hack’r-A-Thon//

All joking aside, the guitar has been a bear for me… 12 notes, sharps/flats, whatever that means. I’ve spent some 17 years trying to learn. Unfortunately, a majority of those years were spent sans guitar. I will admit, as tough is that is, it might have been a good idea to invest in a music teacher. But, since guitar ownership was never in the cards… Since then, guitar in hand… I’ve been using @GuitarZoom – @SteveStine and @JustinGuitar. Interested?
