ASCII

ONE CODE TO RULE THEM ALL

ASCII Code Chart

Artwork – ASCII Art

ASCII Characters and Binary code…. got to love this stuff.

Back in the day, ASCII was our only form of communication. In the late 90’s beepers and rudimentary multi-key cell phones could only text the old way. I would spend hours creating the best coded language to share with friends and this chart of characters became art.

For you younger folks out there, who may not know what I’m writing about – “ASCII, is a standard data-encoding format for electronic communication between computers. ASCII assigns standard numeric values to letters, numerals, punctuation marks, and other characters used in computers. In full: American Standard Code for Information Interchange.” ASCII – Per Britannica. Take it or leave it. We use it for art… and pictographs.

Those days are in the past, I know. But it was still, fun while it lasted. Here’s a list of all the characters and binary codes to inspire your next piece of art. Don’t be shy, don’t keep your art to yourself! Share it with others.

Dwight

Oh, and before I forget, we aren’t talking about generated artwork… we are talking about the good, the bad and the unusual character art. My personal favorite is the local “Skunk Ape”, “Grassman” or “Alien ‘Big Foot’ Hunter”. Just a few I recall from back in the day. Rules were broken below when ‘creating’ these ASCII images. ((SHOUT OUT)) to the artist who converted these TUX and Dwight images to ASCII. The TUX ‘piece’ may need to find it’s way onto a t-shirt or hat.

Tree Study

A Season Of Change

Tree Study

"</div

Artwork – Tree Study Series

Changing seasons, progression of time. A Tree study.

We watch as branches sway in the breeze, winter is coming . Snow covers their barren branches, with no leaves for what seems like months. Out of the window,  we see the sun, and we follow this specimen through time a passage of time, as seasons change.

We watch its growth after a tremendously long winter pause. New life emerges in the spring, followed by a spring trim. In the warm glow of late day, branches stretch, and bounce, pushing out their bark and leaves for more sun light.

More coming soon, please check back later. Be sure to view my latest sketches and artwork on X @salleetech for progression photos. You can also explore other pieces and artwork in the artwork category.

Anthropomorphic – Dali

Interesting Take on Reality

Anthropomorphic – Dali

Dali - Anthropomorphic Subjects

Lab Work – Dali, Let’s cover the Anthropomorphic – Dali

Get Some More Dali…

Dali, Salvador Dali, the Spanish Surrealist painter and printmaker, more infamously known for his surreal expressions and fanciful illusions. I must admit that I am a fan of this work. While I wouldn’t say I’m fanatical, I am intrigued by this works. His work breaks the boundaries of reality and delves into a surreal world that is uniquely Salvador Dali. While studying Art History in college, I delved deeper into Dali’s works as I explored my own surrealist illusions and study of colors. I  purchased  a few table-top books of his works and some small print books for reference. My influence comes more from the internet than from archival hardbound books. The surreal, dream-like, and fanciful elements in my own work are a direct reflection of Dali’s influence. He truly is a brain teaser. In addition to Dali, other artists like Parkes (modern surrealist; fantasy); even Larry Elmore have influenced my work as well. They are all incredibly skilled with an eye for detail and light. If you have the chance, I recommend taking a look at some of Dali’s work online. Check out pieces like  “The Anthropomorphic Cabinet” (Anthropomorphic – Dali) from 1936. Clockwork

Automaton Creations

Clockwork Series

Together

Artwork – Clockwork

Clockwork is a mixed media creation that simulates an automaton’s interpretation of street art, taking on the task of being ‘creative’. It incorporates spray paint, markers, a paper pad, plaster, and board.

This hybrid interpretation of urban life is a mixed media series made of plaster and board. It focused on street art and uses various paint types including Krylon, Rust-Oleum and/or Dupli-Color aerosols. Check out the Clockwork series and others like it, which highlight various mediums, surfaces and mixed textures.

More to come, check back later just finished a few new designs, using Prismacolor acrylic markers. It’s been about 18 years since I last drew up ‘Clockwork’ as a tag or street name. Far from being an automaton, I might start a new design at some point. Check out the latest sketches, mark-ups, and artwork @salleetech for progression photos. Together

Artwork – Together

More information will be necessary to fully understand this series. However, it is clear that this series serves as a celebration of family, whether they are blood relatives or individuals who hold a special place in your life, such as close friends. The series consists of two small pieces, white on black duotone acrylics, each measuring 5″ x 5″. As mentioned earlier “together” symbolizes the importance of family, whether biological or chosen. It is the love depicted in these paintings that truly brings them to life.
