Another Metroid-Vania style Let’s Play by @fightinCowboy, an excellent play-though. We need more of these indie fighting games like this!

About The Last Faith

The Last Faith Video Review, is a new classic mashup with a ‘Metroid-vania’ backdrop and game treatment. Marching along, carrying on the modern Metroid-vania-style games. @fightCowboy is masterful in his play-through, the reason I’m buying the game and the reason I follow his content. The Last Faith was initially released in November 2023 on PS5/PS4, XBox, Nintendo, and PC. The game was developed by Steam by Kuni Souls Game and Playstack on the Unity Engine

This Souls-like, vampire-like fighting game is golden, a gem. First released on November 15, 2023, this game screams perfection, reminiscent of a cross between Souls, Castlevania, Elden Ring, and the Blasphemous series. It’s an absolute gem of a game. The game is a must-buy and is on my wish list, as I’m still working on Elden Ring while writing this article. Another Indie ‘Metroid-vania’ type game (I don’t mean another Indie game being bad in this case)… this is a great example of non-mainstram gaming at its finest.

PS5 Controllers (Modern)

I’m going to take a chance here and say that I probably lean towards Blasphemous and The Last Faith because they remind me of the Castlevania Series I grew up with. The controls are the main issue for me. I’m honestly struggling with the dual-stick, could be my age or the number of controllers I’ve had to memorize to this point. May be it’s the sensitivity of the thumb-sticks. To better describe it, it feels like playing Golden Eye, Counterstrike, or Halo… It’s like a drone remote, and it can be tricky at times. I just can’t seem to get the right motion for the camera and perspective stick. For example I just can’t find the right motion to play Elden Ring.

However, The Last Faith is next on my list of games to purchase despite the thumb-stick challenges. I’m  sure there will be come new or difficulties with it as well, but since the game is presented in 2D, horizontal scoll view like Metroid-vania style , it reduces the level of stress and frustration compared to first or third personal views.

Game Play

Game play, characters, bosses, do more of it. The Gothic and vampiric amalgamation gives off a good vibe and the Unity engine seems to work well for this Indie title. I believe the Metroid-vania treatment attracts old-school gamers, while enhancing playability for thos in the younger generations who grew up on the action RPG genre. A shout out to @fightnCowboy for the play-through the quality and skill displayed are unmatched. This aligns with my enjoyment of the game, as I can immerse myself in the gameplay and envision myself playing along. This helps me learn the game, acquire skills, and apply when I’ve learned from the play-through. Thank you for your efforts.

Buy or No Buy and Follow @fightinCowboy

So, this is a buy and here is why. It’s a newer Castlevania type game, love the Simon and Dracula series from some 30 years ago, specifically 1994’s Super Castlevania IV, more on that soon as @lordKayoss has a play-through I have to post. I use a different scale, not a 0-100, but more NPS (Net Promoter Score), ‘how likely am I to pass, hold or buy a game in the next 6 months?’. “Pass” means is I’m likely not going to buy or review. “Hold” is that ‘meh’ or in-between status, where theROI (purchase to entertainment factor is off) is iffy. It’s not a no, but I may watch the game online or a play-through to understand the premise. Then there is the “Buy” category, and The Last Faith, is 100% a buy.

For comparison, or to communicate what is on my buy list there are three games in total. A few other games that have peaked my interest, creeping up on my buy list is Black Myth Wukong Video and the Elden Ring DLC (read the review, I plan on tackling Elden Ring more in the 4th quarter). Which was not out at the time of @figthncowboy play-through. So, here are my current “Buys”: The Last Faith, Black Myth and the new Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Official World Premiere Trailer – is by Ubisoft Quebec and Ubisoft slated for November 2024. More to come on all three titles.
