Ice Hockey Video

Game On!

@WorldOfLongPlay Ice Hockey Video

Lab Work – Ice Hockey Video – Full Games, fights and all

Dive into Ice Hockey, a 1988 Classic NES Nintendo Entertainment System video game

Choose a team, set a speed, select a duration, create a team profile, and hit the ice. Simple.

Among the hockey titles, Blades of Steel, NHL 98, NHL 2024, and Ice Hockey, the original NES Ice Hockey game might just take the cake. The differences, are significant, such as more control in the newer games, can sometimes be too much in my opinion. Take it for what it is. There are moments when I simply want to pickup a game, play, enjoy that time, and then set it down. With the newer games, there is often a story mode or a “get into the league” challenge.

In contrast, NES Ice Hockey is all about grabbing a stick and just playing. I believe that’s way it remains at the top of the list of hockey games… maybe tied with NHL’98, but it’s been too long for both. The NHL series of games has some tricks and scoring tips, but the newest version’s AI (NHL 2024) accounts for those said moves, which seems to take away some of the skill from 97′-’98. It’s a bummer, more skill required I suppose. Getting down to the basics, I love the simplicity of grabbing a stick an playing the NES Ice Hockey game…

The play-ability, in-game challenge, speed and accuracy are key in the NES game. The fighting scenes are a bit odd, fun, as it looks like two whirling dervishes glitching out, it’s quite amusing. While some of the other games mentioned above refine the fighting button combinations, and cut-scenes… this is something the game lacks in creativity. Not a reason to skip this as a “buy”. More so, it’s a 30 year old relic, so it’s a matter of appreciation for those developers. Which is fine, it doesn’t take away from the game nor the nostalgia.

Moving past the fighting scenes, the Zamboni cut-scene is great for periods and half-time, goalies… no complaints here! Truly, this game is a gem for nearly 40 years. It’s amazing to think that these original NES console games have had a 40 year shelf life. Who would have thought that at 8, 9 or 10 years old, I would be writing about them 40 years later?

Next, thanks for the coverage @worldOfLongPlays, love the video and complete game play-through. I can always count on the full game from your channel. Helps to explain the nostalgia, since I’ll never own and/or play the game again. In any case, check out the @worldLongOfLongPlays Playlist on NES Ice Hockey on YouTube Logo YouTube… You can always see our video playlists, or check the video category on our website.

Rust might be one of the easiest games to ‘passively’ watch,

Passively watch as @willjum tackles Rust. By the way, there are plenty of games in @willjum’s playlist, so don’t miss out on those… Great content.

I use the term passive because time is fleeting… I don’t have the required 1000+ hours to keep pace with the likes of Willy J and other Rust content creators. As a passive viewer… that’s what I have for now. It’s tough to construct a narrative, starting out a piece highlight such and such game when the writer is a viewer or fan, just like you perhaps. Sometimes that’s just how it goes in the gaming world. There is never a dull moment, never seems to be enough time in the day to perfect my skills in Rust, especially with new games. like Elden Ring and Spiderman 2, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage creeping into view. The list of games for a recent PS5 recipient goes on and on. I’m not complaining though, more the merrier. We use to wait quarters for new NES games. So it comes with the territory. So, take this article as it is, and that is marketing @willjum and Rust game!

Let’s stop there, @willjum, great content and a great game to cover. Watch this video and others Rust videos like it on YouTube Logo YouTube or check out our other videos found under the video category on our website.

Street Fighter Returns

Any Street Fighter Fans Out There, Capcom or SNK?

Street Fighter 6(XBox/PC)

SF 30th Anniversary

Lab Work – Steam, XBox, VM Software, Street Fighter And More

It’s time… it’s time we embark on a new adventure, Street Fighter returns…

Systems Check: Parallels (checked), Windows 11 (checked), Steam (checked), Street Fighter… Street Fighter is up and running, first boot, and ready to go come Monday or Tuesday. It’s been about 20 years since my last play… Emulation and Steam are necessary now. Back in the day, I believe it was  Street Fighter – Capcom vs SNK during my undergrad years. I believe we are anticipating Street Fighter 6… I’m certain it will be fantastic. We will be playing the game on Xbox/PC (Asus Mini or MacOS Parallels {Win11 or Linux distribution}). Whichever runs better than the other or vice versa.

The point here is that I’ll get to it. Street Fighter Returns. It’s been over 20 years since I played my favorite game of all time. The first few were of the ‘all-time variety’. I started as a button smasher, then progressed to novice, and eventually became a skilled player. I’m not sure if I would call myself a gamer, but for the purposes of this post, I was the closest thing to the ‘idea Street Fighter gamer’… Perhaps it’s more nostalgia than practicality that gives it its legendary status.

Anyhow, I think we will tune up the Asus mini, and give it a go over the next few days or weeks. We have guitar, printer, and ‘on the bench’ fixes coming soon… Why not add a college favorite to the mix? We can also cover the Asus mini, MacOS Parallels (running Win11 and Linux) while we are at it.

Solitaire Wins Vs. Tosses

Play Solitaire

Wins (Standar/Vegas Style) vs Tosses (Losses)

Hoyle/Bicycle Variety

Lab Work – Solitaire

Wins Vs. Tosses, Vegas or Standard, Solitaire is a great game to cover.

We will cover this topic in depth in a future post. However, for now, I wanted to provide a sneak peek. I have recorded 4 weeks or more of Solitaire games, noting the number of tosses and wins. In some upcoming sessions, I will compare Vegas (3 card draw/flip) to standard (single card draw/flip). Solitaire. The results are interesting so far, with the numbers are starting to even out. Currently, wins are +2 over tosses.

I have a collection of cards, which are typical convenient store card packs. I have a total of 5 packs, 4 standard Bicycle decks, in poker size and one set that is waterproof (you can find Hoyle Waterproof cards). These are handy for the various places I tend to play, such as out by the pool, on a coffee-stained cutting mat, or on any number of other flat surfaces like the kitchen table. It’s especially helpful to have the waterproof deck in a pinch.

Yes, I call it, Solitaire Wins Vs. Tosses. Yes, the tosses are losses… The point is to speed up the game, switch decks, and increase the number of shuffles – to 3 to 7, with closer to 7 shuffles yielding better results. I also want to note that I reset the card deck after a certain number of tosses. These numbers might be added in a future post as well.

Good luck, don’t forget, tosses over losses, wins over tosses.

Not a fan of Solitaire? No problem, let’s explore some other options before we finish up. Puzzles? How about the Candy Crush game series? Or maybe you’re up for a game of World War 3 play with friends like we did here, or take on the challenge of conquering the world alone. Not into ‘Risk-like’ games? How about trying out D&D? Check out Dungeon Boss – Revised. Still not interested? What about Clash of Clans?

CoC: Legend League Update

CoC: Legend League at 5000+ Trophies

SuperCell - League Update

Lab Work – Legends League

Legend League Update – Level 15, Hero Updates… theLegend League trophy push has ended for now, currently sitting at 5095 trophies. There is no need to continue pushing at the moment as I have upgrades to focus on: hero(s), defensive troops/buildings, new pets to upgrade.

Picking up where we left off, the latest post covered the new level 15 Townhall (TH) upgrade, new characters, pets and more… Since then, we’ve been battling it out, making a strong trophy push to see how far we can go without any trouble. The Legend League is different from normal play, with limitations on battles per day and trophy retention. We quickly found out that our clan and TH status are not ready for prime time. The Legend League it self is different, fun, and offers an interesting take on the game. However, it’s no joke. We are able to maintain around 100 trophies without losing or gaining, but this hinders our ability to upgrade. Our TH/clan setup needs some work before we can progress further in the league.

5000+ Trophy Push

This specific profile is different from my others, likely the most frequently used, and definitely has the most troop upgrades. However, anyone can reach the Legend League with some conditions. While any Clash of Clans member can push trophies past the 5000+ mark, the catch is that there are far many more maxed out players waiting to compete. The Cost-to-Benefit (CBA) or Return of Investment ROI) is mild when playing with a non-maxed clan, as no gold is lost.

If you need to upgrade, my suggestion is to focus on dropping out and farming until you can max out your clan. Keep in mind that you won’t be able to earn money, elixir, or dark elixir to upgrade your Town Hall either. By participating in 8 battles a day, you will only receive rewards based on those battles. At the end of the day, the trophies you earn or lose will be added or subtracted from your total, and those who remain above 5000+ threshold will stay in the league. Currently,  I am just below 4800 trophies and on my way down, but I am still in the league. This experience has been a good test for my clan and Town Hall, both there is still much work to be done in order to compete in the Legend League. Conflict of Nations: WW3

Take On The World – Conflict of Nations: WW3

Recommendation – CoN: WW3 – Grab a friend, join the game, conquer the world

Conflict Of Nations:World War 3

Download Conflict of Nations

CoN:WWIII – Conflict of Nations: WW3 is the new app in town. Team up with a friend, form a friendly coalition and conquer the US or the world. Games are available in both long and short (4 hour) formats. A friend and I decided to conquer the world starting with the short 4-hour game. This helped us learn the process, develop strategies, and build effective teams.

While games are not always a top priority for me, when they do catch my interest, Conflict of Nations: WW3 definitely did. I teamed up with Ivy to take on the world. This is my second time playing, while Ivy has been going strong for weeks, if not months. More on Clash of Clan shortly, I was just looking for a long term, Stratego or Dune but in a quick and user-friendly war game.

Dogeminer v2

Lab Work – Get Some Doge

Fan favorite, Check out Dogeminer v2; don’t forget to save your game.

Get your Doge on, with Dogeminer v2. When was the last time you played and took your doge to outer space?

I’m not forcing you to play Doge, but may be you should (just kidding, I don’t need more people on the Doge servers)! Anyway, we recommend playing Doge or Doge 2… It’s a great game that’s easy-to-play, just tap along, build, blast off, and go where no doge has gone before. Say goodbye to app crashing, progress loss, or game issues. The best part of this game is the ability to save a downloadable file for later. Better screenshots will have to wait next time! These Dogeminer v2 games should suffice for now.
