Measure Precisely, Calipers
Tool Needs – Neiko and Mitutoyo Calipers

Archive – Tool Needs, the Neiko or the Mitutoyo Calipers
A handy gadget to have in and around the shop is a set of calipers. Make Neiko brand calipers your go to for precision measurements. If you already have a set of calipers and looking to replace current stainless calipers, consider the Mitutoyo Digimatic Caliper.
Regardless of which maker or brand you might choose, both are useful to have around the shop. We use one set for ‘more rugged’ measurements, such as automotive, outdoor or in not-so-clean environment. The other set stays indoors, ideally in a clean environment free of debris and contaminants. The main difference, in my opinion, is the metal-to-plastic ratio. I find it more accurate to use metal parts (Mitutoyo) compared to the metal and plastic hybrid (Neiko). Both function as mid-range calipers and are not terribly expensive. However, they are necessary for taking accurate measurements.
Check out these tools for yourself and see which one fits your needs best. Let us know what you find!

Fix String Height; Guitar Action
Stew Mac Gauges

Luthier Tools; Gauges
Someday, I’ll learn I’m not much of a luthier, but I do build, tinker and repair my own. I recently completed my first DIY build, using a premade body and genuine guitar parts – EMG Tele Pickup Set, Fender Telecaster neck and Wilkinson tuners. Now, I’m venturing into higher quality builds, like an American Tele body with full US-made parts for an American Parts Tele. As I work on these projects, I realize that I’ll need some gauges. These luthier gauges seem like they could be useful to have around. They are defintely worth the investment if you’re working on installing new quality tuners or building a fresh guitar.
If you’re in need of quality DIY guitar parts, I recommend checking out eBay, Stewmac, or Amazon a peek. They offer a variety of wood selections, premiere quality, American-made stock necks, and more. With the right tools and skills, you can fully fabricate, build and play a new guitar in just a few days (minus sanding and glue time). It’s a wild concept, but it’s possible. Speaking of gauges, this handy gauge set can help you adjust the action on both acoustic and electric guitars. Ultimately, the string height will determine the pressure needed to play a note or chord. This gauge set is a great option for DIY builds, parts builds or working on pre-made guitar stock from the Stewmac shop. While you’re shopping, be sure to check out what’s called a capo or capotasto, for quick and easy scale changes. A nice-to-have, this hand tool or accessory is a great addition to your learning arsenal, allowing you to alter your guitar’s scale in seconds and enhance your guitar skills.

Heart Roasters – Bodum French Press
COFFEE WARNING…running low, DANGEROUSLY LOW on coffee! Those of you who know what I’m talking about, get ready! Let’s chat about coffee, more specifically Heart Roasters’ blend coffee. I love this stuff from Heart Roasters. For those of you in the South Florida area, #PerqSRQ stop in there and satisfy your coffee creating with #HeartRoasters coffee. They offer a variety of local snacks, breakfast rolls, and drinks to go with your breakfast.
I have to brag about Heart Roasters coffee for a moment – the Ethiopia Worka Sakaro is my favorite. It’s also my prefererred blend to run through the French press. I use the Bodum French Press, which is nothing to fancy, but it works well and brews great small batches.

As a continuation, my go to is the Ethopian variety, which in my opinion, is the best I can get my hands on, week over week or when in a bind. It’s consistency, flavor, and roast are just right on a day-to-day basis. The Worka Sakaro brews well in the Bodum Chambord French press… as I want to reiterate. You can pick up a frenchie p for around $40.
Don’t skip this COFFEE WARNING, get coffee now. Make your morning coffee a bit more pleasurable with @Heart, Cheers.

Fresh Upgrade
Refreshed
It’s nice to see the drone back in working order, taking to the sky. Two, completed the requirements to fly professionally, completing and passing FAA 108 test for Part 108 Licensing. Must do, if you plan to fly professionally, beyond a hobbyist, or to take in an income based on flight. In the meantime, let’s get the drone up and push it through its paces…
Those of you who are interested in videography and flying drones, check out the drone shot article below. I don’t normally call out manufactures content or help videos, however, added a few drone shots, The Reveal, Panning, Orbit and Overhead Flight. DJI has nice article on drone shots, and how you might incorporate those shots into your flying arsenal. For more Airfield Bound articles or information on the gimbal issues, or other airfield flight tests, learn more.

FrSky Taranis Q Transmitters
Taranis QX7S
Tech | Tools – FrSky Taranis QX7S
FrSKY TARANIS QX7S
First, I picked up the FrSky Taranis Q series transmitter after spending some time at the @GetFPV shop in Sarasota, Fl. I always appreciate the help from the good people there and the endless options for drone hobbyist and enthusiasts. After a few clicks, a few questions, and some tinkering around. I added the @FrSkyRC Taranis Q X7S + Hall Sensor Gimbals to my drone arsenal.
Secondly, after dropping the remote (bummer). I added a new switch pretty easily by buying a switch removal/replacement kit. I also purchased a few extra Ni-MH remote batteries for this particular model. The remote comes with a battery and Ni-MH charger and the QX7S specifically has a charging port on board. This allows access to the battery through the remote or transmitter housing without having to remove the battery.
By avoiding accidents and not needing to remove the battery pack to charge it, I can keep the battery protected at all times. This is really handy and reduces the risk of accidents occurring between charges. It was a bummer to have to fix the switch, but it was good to get under the ‘hood’ and take care of it. If you need to tighten or loosen the gimbal pressure clips, you might want to do that while the cover is off.
