NES – Rad Racer

Rad NES Classics

Lab Work – The Classics With @NintendoComplete

Adding to the list of old NES/SNES/SEGA?DREAMCAST Games, we toss in Rad Racer. Same for the content via NintendoComplete. If you like the content, feel free to subscribe.

Between RBI, JAWS, Double Dribble and Rad Racer was great… a good game from the start, maybe due to it’s ‘ability’ to play with limited skills. Again, as a child, I think it might be relative, I was not very good at games, board games/cards; maybe. There were a few games I remember being decent, above novice etc. SOCOM, Contra, Mario Kart, Street Fighter Series, NHL Hockey… Rad Racer was in the top 15 games that were playable as a kid, button smashing, no patience; New NES. You get the ghist.

Next, let’s hop into playing classic games… Check out ArcadeSpot. There are others, but I’ve not gone down the proverbial online rabbit hole. Initially, I wanted a away to check out the old games. As you will see if you check out the link below for Rad Racer. Two, I’ve looked to outfit the office with an old NES or emulator system that may offer an experience similar to those of the past. The rom systems in my opinion are out (out of scope), I need to look into the OEM’s or original systems. And how to retrofit those for modern gaming or modern office space. Lastly, I’ll post another post here again, just for those who might want to dig into more online games. It does help to have remote controllers, or some sort of controller. If not, no big deal. You can play classic games with the ‘keyboard/mouse’ setup. It will not be NES controller, or the bad graphics (assuming you have modern compute and display hardware). Check out play old games like Rad Racer.

NES Excitebike

Find @nintendoComplete Online, Starting With Excitebike

Lab Work – Excitebike

Huge Excitebike Fan, custom stages, max jumps; game before it’s time.

First, a slight gripe, bike tempurature control/problems (which is annoying, cause that’s now how bikes really work when you hammer down the throttle). After a few runs, you can pick up on timing and ramp pace, get a few wins under your belt.. Race cut scenes have aged, but are really good for aging game. A Fan? Get an official Excitebike t-shirt, only a couple of days to have it shipped and ‘in hand’.In comparison, this might be my favorite racing game, outside of MarioKart, FZero or maybe F1 ’22 (which again, in my mind outside the boundary of throwback games and nostalgia associated with early game consoles). Anyhow, this game is in my phantom top 3 I think, just cause of the action. I believe it was a head of it’s time, graphics weren’t all that complicated, screen moves right-to-left with obstacles, especially like the striped ramps and speed arrows…

More on the customization though, once you’ve played most of the game, you may want to try your hand at creating you’re own track/track obstacles. I remember building these tracks for days, xlarge ramps, little ramps, speed arrows and striped ramps to see how many jumps I could complete in one go. Don’t forget the ramps with the large extensions, like half of a bridge sans one side. Those things can wreak havoc on your game play, including the mega-berms. Honestly don’t recall what each of the obstacles are called, but it’s worth a watch, if you don’t have access to an online game console, ROM, emulator or Authentic NES

Follow along with @nintencoComplete has a go at Excitebike, excellent playthrough. I’ve covered this channel for awhile now, we will start mixing in Sega, Sony and other game consoles soon. One last item, check out the Design Mode around ~21min marker… Nostalgia.

I skipped the screenshots, check out @nintendoCompete work, it’s epic. You always catch old NES games and more on Retrogames.cz if you want to stay up on legacy games etc. There are others, today we will hightlight Retrogames.cz. Cheers.

NES Ice Climber

Climb’n Ice

Lab Work – Play Ice Climber Now

NES – Ice Climber

Kong Fan? Rampage? Gyromite? Do you remember Ice Climber? Play Ice Climber online now! I recall ‘pain’, I was never good at the game. Games was epic for ’85/’86, I remember it like it was yesterday. A childhood friend owned the game console with a few games, Ice Climber included. We had the console, Super Mario, Baseball, Excitebike, Duck Hunt (can’t remember if we had other original games, may be Zelda as a side purchase). Anyhow, the point here, the neighborhood kid had this game, which means time on the console/game was limited. I don’t think it would’ve made a difference anyhow. I was terrible at the game. Regardless, the game was awesome, reminiscent of those games above, the Donkey Kong’s or Rampage, bottom-up racing games. Races included ice, stone obstacles, bears, birds, and other creatures… Awesome.

Just to note, Ice Climber, Gyromite were included in the original ~17 game series on the US Nintendo Entertainment System. Don’t quote me on the total number of games released in the original US lineup, but here is what I’ve gathered – Duck Hunt, Gyromite, 10-Yard Fight, Baseball, Clu CLu Land, Donkey Kong Jr., Excitebike, Golf, Hogan’s Alley, Ice Climber, Kung Fu, Mach Rider, Pinball, Stack Up, Tennis, Wild Gunman and Wrecking Crew. The point, Gyromite was another sideview puzzle game, with a crazy old professor/scientist, avoiding pipes and critters. Good time to mentioned R.O.B., with Gyromite… NES R.O.B. also included in the US NES release, although shelf life was short. The point here it is linear, moving right-to-left, up-and-down with a cool robot accessory to help open pipes.

Anyhow, tangent there… Ice Climber was a great game, one of the original games on the NES console, jump, climb and hack (mallet) your way to the top.

Final thought, out of the 17 original games on the NES console, Ice Climber was a great game, vertical boards, 2 player fun; game difficulty – hard as can be for ~1985-86. I’ll cover some Nintendo controllers/accessories – Power Glove, Power Mat, Game Genie, R.O.B, NES Light Gun etc. in future posts.

Top Gun NES

NES – Top Gun Playthrough @snapbackWill

Lab Work – NES Games And Play-Throughs

@Snapbackwill, check out Snapback… this guy made it past Mission 1. What a nightmare! Maybe 80’s nostalgia to me or that real-life shooting pain in your hands (flashback)… you awaken, clinching your hand when recalling the horror of Top Gun.

Landing was such a nightmare, same for game play. A nightmare only an 80’s child can recall after hour upon hour of wasted time trying to land the d#&@ aircraft on any mission, if you made it past Mission 1. Check out @nintendoComplete below, great play through…

Check out @NintendoComplete as well (I know I’ve mentioned @NintendoComplete’s channel before), shares the ultimate kick to the gut, this play-through is pure genius (no voice over, just the game and all of its glory). Glory of which I never had. The game still to this day, remains one of my favorite games besides may be Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!, Contra, Track & Field II, Kung Fu, Duckhunt. Hell there are to many games for a Top 10. Don’t forget Friday the 13th, same for @lordkayoss – “Howdy Folks, LK on the Tube…”. This guy gets it. Great narrative, game play, tips/tricks for Friday the 13th and more. Give his YT channel a look, subscribe, click the bell. You know the drill.
