BurmPy & R

#burmPy #pyReference #selfImprovement #pyEdu #rProgramming #R #PyZilla

Mentioned a few weeks back, almost seems more than a month ago now… we have a few things ‘on the bench’ i.e. work bench; burmpy.com and our R Programming deep dive.

No need to get out the pitchforks for this Burmese Python. As our educational series goes, we want to add Python and R to the mix. These two languages are ‘on the bench’ now, meaning we are adding to the site every day. One of which, both will be available via our Github site “borg2borg” – burmPy and RProject. Caveat, ((good news)) we’ve started to convert burmPy to it’s future ‘home’ in our educational series burmpy.com. This entity will also carry on the TWBS Bootstrap testcase, using Bootstrap v.5. So, more to come on that in the coming weeks/months. Keep your eyes pealed.

More pictures are coming, please excuse the mess… shifting a our Github code and ghists are always available, unfortunately, working in the background to finish Burmpy screenshots, cleaned up and prepped for consumption.

#warWorld #myASCIIArt #ASCIILife

ASCII Characters and Binary code…. got to love this stuff.

Back in the day, late 90’s ‘we’ (I) would spend hours creating the best ascii art there was to offer. Days of the past, I know. But still, fun while it lasted. Here’s a listing of all the characters and binary codes to make your next pic of ASCII artwork. Don’t be shy, don’t keep your ASCII art to oneself!

RAW ASCII (has spacing issues, we know… #$#$@ browser… may repost if it doesn’t work)

Oh, and before I forget, we aren’t talking about ‘ascii’ generator artwork… we are talking the good, the bad and the unusual character art. My personal fav is the local “Skunk Ape”, “Grassman” or “Alien ‘Big Foot’ Hunter”. Just a few I recall from back in the day. Rules were broken below when ‘creating’ these ascii images. ((SHOUT OUT)) to the artist who converted these TUX and Dwight images to ASCII. The TUX ‘piece’ may need to find it’s way onto a t-shirt or hat.

Oracle VBox – Virtual Appliances

Virtual Appliances, VImages, VDI’s, ISO’s

#vb #Oracle #vAppliance #Vbox

Oracle Virtual Box, get it now… assuming you’ve not run into a time when you needed a system other than the one you might be using, stuck with or have issues running native apps.

VirtualBox is a great place to start. Make sure you scope out the latest and greatest virtualized products… Ideally, it’s a great ‘virtual’ appliance to have around the old shop, run VDI’s – Virtual Desktop Infrastructure or ISO – Copy (of the) Optical Disc Image. Stumbled across an article about this prior as I’ve written about this before, when testing other OS, OS Variants, Solutions, Drone Flight sims, Flight Configs etc. Believe you me, this Virtual Box stuff comes in handy when testing for just about any and all compute/browser combinations. In our case, we like the Oracle product for non Windows needs, Boot Camp covers Windows environments pretty well. We will cover those another time, but for now check out this handy https://virtualboxes.org/images/ link for OS options. Your choice – BSD, Fedora, Linux Varietals and more. Other image offering can be found here:These OS Boxes Linux Images.

REMEMBER DO YOUR HOMEWORK, check what’s there, it may take many, many, many try(s) to get this stuff to work in an optimal fashion but you’ll get it soon enough. Testing is key, Donate where you can!

A few other notes, I’m sure you have your own process, but we use Virtual Box for lots of stuff*… testing, games, browser ‘wars’, IoT stuff* and more stuff*. Below you will find a few screenshots of Virtual Box and MS Remote Desktop. The goal was to cover as many systems, device varieties, OS images and tools… Always remember, just have fun. Next, please note, since the screenshots were taken/shared, we’ve added Virtual Box to MacOs, running a litany of ISOs. Those can be found here, included for your convenience! We certainly enjoy using this method for just about anything. Last point, these virtual environments can be used for IoT testing (please see posting Debian Buster) starting with the Ubuntu IoT ISOs.

borg2borg v7

#borg2borg #RaiseOfTheBorgs #Bootstrapv4.6 #Bootstrapv5(i.e. burmPy coming soon)

Bootstrap’n Journey number 412 version 7

Need to get this out of my brain for awhile now, seeing that version 5 has been out for sometime. Regardless of time, it’s been posted to the web. We have three offerings at this point, giving 3 different flavors of Bootstrap:

  • 1fyr.com – BS v3
  • borg2borg.com – BS v4
  • burmpy.com – BS v5, with a focus on Python

    • These are meant to be reference materials, working templates for anyone to use. We will also convert all private/secret Ghists to public here in the near future… probably 2 months or so, once we convert this over to dynamic data via php and a db (database) connection and all. However, this might be ‘jumping the shark’ as I want to get a working version of Django up on the ole’ web-server and see what we can do from there. Lots and lots of things to do, clearly… not enough time in the world to work on these side projects. We will get there one day at a time. Enjoy!

Hosting 101 – Endurance ((Fail))

#endurPain #bluehost #hostgator #downLow #upTheAnte

Hostgator now Endurance

Hostgator owned by Endurance is not your same old hosting service

Horrible experience a year ago now, had to purge just a ton of PHPBB users, spam comments, PHPBB ‘fake users’ and restart a forum. Two, setup a few payee users, this allows for multiple payees on the account and lastly, had to An official PHPBB reset, following . Getting to the heart of the matter, PHPBB took a ‘dive’ for the worse. Being a longtime Hostgator patron for years, literally 14+ years… and 3rd time around, support is moving from generally bad to the depths of horrendous. CC payment portal, ‘billing’ doesn’t work, i.e. example, “payments for/by different payees doesn’t work” as intended. Not that a business wants to be in the habit of or paying on ‘behalf of’ payees, from time to time months would pass without a charge to the payee”. Time to right a wrong, up the ante some would say. Poor customer service caused further delay, service managers, ticketing system malaise; the whole bit. Ending this piece with, “Buyer Beware”. All seems to be falling apart over at the new Endurance co. Nevertheless, be aware…

Normally, we don’t encourage skipping services or tools, price might just be the defining factor when it comes to your hosting provider or hosting choice. Do your research, look for partnerships, ownerships, ‘overlords’ and you might think twice about Endurance products. Bogus. Be aware.

1fyr TWBSv3

1fyr TWBSv3

#twbsv3 #1fireEveryMonth #Bootstrapv3

Like many things in this world, it was time to tune up 1fyr.com… Needed a code clean up, removed the WP jargon and bloat and added the Bootstrap framework to this site. Made for a few nice updates, show/hide on the latest fire, archived videos presented in a more favorable fashion and the Jumbotron… While the yard is being worked on, (2 months now) the fire concept has been put on ice to say the least. Again, which aloud me to refocus on the site, code tweaks and more. We kept it simple using TWBS v3. Once we get the backyard up and running again, we will post videos… in the meantime, it is what it is…

Broken Calculator, Let’s fix it

Short and brief… a few months ago a calculator showed up… connections all busted, looked like a pet got to the internals. Anyway, a few soldered connections, a new battery and the this little piggy is like new again! Easy work, no major issues with the main board, case or display. Quick fix.

iRobot Roomba 900 Series Teardown

iRobot Roomba 900 Series Teardown

#RoombaSensei #iRobot #900Series #tearDownThisRobot #robotDrop

Got broken robot? We do! Some might say that’s the worst! Let’s get after it, iRobot – 900 Series is on the bench.

Let’s get this thing fixed. The beautiful part of iRobot/Roomba products (for now), it’s easy fixings! Unless the board is fried, the main housing is smashed to pieces or plastics are wasted. Even then, (this one in particular took a hard spill) parts are fairly easy to come by. The key is to source, clean, install and maintain what you do have. Most, if not all of this particular Roomba was fine, a good cleaning at the end of the repair was worth its weight in gold.

For those of you who don’t maintain electronics, robots etc. weekly, month or ‘NEVER’… friendly reminder, whatever the electronic might be, they do yeoman’s work if you care for the machine after every one or two uses. Also, the more you maintain, the less you throw out. Remember, No pain, no gain.

A few tools to call out below, overall again noting the comment above, these are fairly simple to fix…

  • Philips Screwdriver (Rechargeable Drill* DeWalt 20v)
  • iRobot – Brushes, collector rollers, caster wheel and filter
  • Cleaner – Windex
  • Cleaner – Sprayway
  • Compressed Air

…for now. This is a huge plus for iRobot
