Lab Work – Excitebike

Huge Excitebike Fan, custom stages, max jumps; game before it’s time.

First, a slight gripe, bike tempurature control/problems (which is annoying, cause that’s now how bikes really work when you hammer down the throttle). After a few runs, you can pick up on timing and ramp pace, get a few wins under your belt.. Race cut scenes have aged, but are really good for aging game. A Fan? Get an official Excitebike t-shirt, only a couple of days to have it shipped and ‘in hand’.In comparison, this might be my favorite racing game, outside of MarioKart, FZero or maybe F1 ’22 (which again, in my mind outside the boundary of throwback games and nostalgia associated with early game consoles). Anyhow, this game is in my phantom top 3 I think, just cause of the action. I believe it was a head of it’s time, graphics weren’t all that complicated, screen moves right-to-left with obstacles, especially like the striped ramps and speed arrows…

More on the customization though, once you’ve played most of the game, you may want to try your hand at creating you’re own track/track obstacles. I remember building these tracks for days, xlarge ramps, little ramps, speed arrows and striped ramps to see how many jumps I could complete in one go. Don’t forget the ramps with the large extensions, like half of a bridge sans one side. Those things can wreak havoc on your game play, including the mega-berms. Honestly don’t recall what each of the obstacles are called, but it’s worth a watch, if you don’t have access to an online game console, ROM, emulator or Authentic NES

Follow along with @nintencoComplete has a go at Excitebike, excellent playthrough. I’ve covered this channel for awhile now, we will start mixing in Sega, Sony and other game consoles soon. One last item, check out the Design Mode around ~21min marker… Nostalgia.

I skipped the screenshots, check out @nintendoCompete work, it’s epic. You always catch old NES games and more on Retrogames.cz if you want to stay up on legacy games etc. There are others, today we will hightlight Retrogames.cz. Cheers.

Lab Work – Who You Choosing? I’m Going With The Amazonian

Star Man, Giant Panther or The Amazon; Wrestling Greats

Pro Wrestling was a great game, a great two player game if you could find someone who put enough hours in on the game as you did. The flips, the chops, the out-of-the-ring play is excellent. I didn’t put this on my top 5 or 10 games, I thought of this as a game I could always come back and play. So, as far as playability, this is up there on that top tier listing. This is like Goldenye, or Kart, Streetfighter, Lemmings, Virtual Tennis, Tiger Woods Golf, even FIFA. The game is timeless, and still remains on my all time playability list. There are games, you want to playthrough like Contra, or Super Mario… but none are like this. ((Shoutout)) to @nintendoComplete for the excellent playthrough. The wrestling animation was fantastic, characters were awesome – Star Man, Giant Panther and The Amazon. I do remember some of the characters taking sometime to beat in ‘story mode’, overall great 2 player game as I mentioned above.

Side note – If you all are looking for old NES or Sega games, maybe games you had trouble with e.g. Altered Beast, RC Grand Prix, Hang On, Alex Kidd, Goldeneye, Road Rash (there are plenty more on that list), check out @nintendoCompleteto fulfill that need or closure for some!

Anyhow, don’t forget those old Sega Games, Alex Kidd in Miracle World… It’s great to see someone beat the game. Cheers

NES Ice Climber

Climb’n Ice

Lab Work – Play Ice Climber Now

NES – Ice Climber

Kong Fan? Rampage? Gyromite? Do you remember Ice Climber? Play Ice Climber online now! I recall ‘pain’, I was never good at the game. Games was epic for ’85/’86, I remember it like it was yesterday. A childhood friend owned the game console with a few games, Ice Climber included. We had the console, Super Mario, Baseball, Excitebike, Duck Hunt (can’t remember if we had other original games, may be Zelda as a side purchase). Anyhow, the point here, the neighborhood kid had this game, which means time on the console/game was limited. I don’t think it would’ve made a difference anyhow. I was terrible at the game. Regardless, the game was awesome, reminiscent of those games above, the Donkey Kong’s or Rampage, bottom-up racing games. Races included ice, stone obstacles, bears, birds, and other creatures… Awesome.

Just to note, Ice Climber, Gyromite were included in the original ~17 game series on the US Nintendo Entertainment System. Don’t quote me on the total number of games released in the original US lineup, but here is what I’ve gathered – Duck Hunt, Gyromite, 10-Yard Fight, Baseball, Clu CLu Land, Donkey Kong Jr., Excitebike, Golf, Hogan’s Alley, Ice Climber, Kung Fu, Mach Rider, Pinball, Stack Up, Tennis, Wild Gunman and Wrecking Crew. The point, Gyromite was another sideview puzzle game, with a crazy old professor/scientist, avoiding pipes and critters. Good time to mentioned R.O.B., with Gyromite… NES R.O.B. also included in the US NES release, although shelf life was short. The point here it is linear, moving right-to-left, up-and-down with a cool robot accessory to help open pipes.

Anyhow, tangent there… Ice Climber was a great game, one of the original games on the NES console, jump, climb and hack (mallet) your way to the top.

Final thought, out of the 17 original games on the NES console, Ice Climber was a great game, vertical boards, 2 player fun; game difficulty – hard as can be for ~1985-86. I’ll cover some Nintendo controllers/accessories – Power Glove, Power Mat, Game Genie, R.O.B, NES Light Gun etc. in future posts.

Candy Crush – Sugar Rush

Sugar Rush

Sugar Crush - Candy Crush

Lab Work – Teeing Up Candy Crush

Have an extra few mins to solve puzzles, like candy? Candy Crush might be just the game you need for those game time moments.

Sugar Crush – Candy Crush, specifically Candy Crush has been around for awhile, I picked up Sugar at the beginning of ’23… was playing this game in my down time, between Factorio and Clash Of Clans. First, Candy Crush is a great puzzle game, similar to those who like Connect Four, Othello, Tetris or a paper crossword puzzle. Be ready, quick on your feet. Sugar is a great game, great animation and more. I prefer Sugar over the previous versions of Candy Crush, as the game feels more ironed out. Back to the other games, Factorio remains as it’s a desktop game, while CoC and Candy Crush both mobile games have gone dormant per say.

Let me explain a bit further, CoC, I’ve played for some 10+ years? TH15, maxed prior to the wall max release and a few new characters etc. The lifecycle of the game has come and gone for me. Two, in regards to Sugar Crush, the dragon stages, you’ll know when you get there, game experience ‘feels’ like you might not be able to pass without coming out of pocket with in-game purchases.

Now, I’m sure there are plenty of people/folks out there who’ve completed the dragon stages, I’ve not. Kudos to those who have. I might need to do a little internet research, I guess. However, I likened the experience to my childhood, playing Gyromite, Castlevania or even Super Mario; and you can’t get out of the rut. I feel like I just can’t ‘beat’ a particular area/stage/puzzle etc. So, without going down the rabbit hole, what I tend to do is set the game down, uninstall until it’s time to pick it up again. I know brutal, the cycle… moreover, I look to pick up the game every other month or so, a new install is a must. Perhaps it would be easier to just pick up with the dragon area…

In-game screenshots to follow, it’s been a month or two since my last ‘go’. Look for game experience in the next few weeks.

Great song, talented YouTube musician @joejenkins covers Toto – Africa.

Front and center, check out the Toto – Africa on the Stylophone – Pocket Synthesizer. Those of you who like the old 8 byte synth sound, check out Jay’s video on Toto. Hey, I recognize the music might not be for everyone here, your genre or your friends. The point is the sound coming out of the mobile synthesizer. For me, I can just image game developers and musicians sitting around this thing coming up with in-game tunes, the next catch/hook or 70’s/80’s jingle… dare I say it’s like discovering a pocket MOOG Modular System probably not in reality. Still very cool, and a handheld way of producing those old school digital sounds. It’s the sound these pocket synth’s produce with a stroke of a stylus. I’m not musically inclined like @joejenkins… his videos are fantastic by the way. Furthermore, check out his rendition of Toto – Africa.

In the meantime, check out @joejenkins other videos, wild… other Syth videos on YouTube, Toto music, tours and shows (Sept. ’23) and background on the band… and, more importantly, more information, video and music created on the Stylophone – Pocket Synthesizer.

Ender Issue 26

Lab Work – Humor Is The Only Way Sometimes

The Lead, 6 hour+ print, print – a Halot Sky Resin vat cover via an Ender 3 Neo Max… 5+ hours post starting time, we ran into issues. Lot’s of issues!

From missing hand (tension) screws, belts, PLA matter covering 40% or more of the printer/extrusion head, print matter splayed out around adhesion plate, off plate and more. Walked in on tension belt removing itself from the printer head (oh snap). I’ll share pictures below, anyhow, we have the printer head back together, PLA cleaned off, tension belts applied… next and not captured below, replace adhesion plate, tension screws, and machine restart for calibration. Look for update posts here in the next day or two.

Purpose of the print? I wanted to get a cover on the Halot Sky (V1) Resin vat… not sure where the original cover might have been misplaced, broken, scrapped or lost. Moreover, the print was lost, looks like the print didn’t adhere to the plate, ironing is off, and printer head was found plowing the print plate. By the way, not a great sound, tension belts releasing and printer head/plate friction. Anyhow, the print fix is in process, we will post more at a later date/time.

Next replace plate, hand screws, springs, restart/update firmware and calibration.

We’ve officially retired our CoC account, just following the last update which ushered in additional TH15 and hero levels, a split builder camp and multi-level builder battles. I’ll keep my update thoughts aside as we started with the ‘retirement’ message.

See above, we recently received the following T’s/S’s… Curious to see the ‘main’ reason for the Supercell ID connection rules. Although I will keep it clean, this appears to be a play to premaritally cement online players with a particular user/id. It’s one thing to drive up usage, broaden game play; but ‘pure update for you as the player’ sounds fishy. Anyhow, if you want to disconnect your account, contact Supercell Support before September 2023.

Ender Filament and Adhesion Issues

Print Plate Surface Adhesion and Heating Issues. Filaments

3D Printer Adhesion Issues with PLA and TPU

Lab Work – Ender Issues Defined

A few more weeks of Ender issues…

I’ll be posting more Ender ‘lite’ issues, as the TPU trial continues so does the filament challenges. Although, the filament change was strictly lab work for the bait designs down the road… same for some locking mechanisms etc. where application of TPU will be more suitable; (excuse the tangent), core printing hasn’t stopped and the challenges continue with PLA. Anything from slicer issues – Creality Software to Ultimaker Cura, Sonic Pad issues, filament run temp, new surface temperature issues… we’ve got a lot to cover.

I’ll break these down into 2 or 3 new posts over the next week. We will cover surface adhesion again as well. Surface adhesion and surface temp seem to cause most of the issues on the Ender Max Neo. I will reserve the right, tinkering doesn’t always produce perfect prints even 60%, 80% of the time. I would argue, the more runs the better in order to increase that 60% likelihood of printing successes.

I shared this picture specifically to cover thickness, fragility and test prints. Get to printing!

Brussels & Bacon

Like Bacon, Maple Syrup?

Maple Bacon & Brussels

Lab Work – Maple Glazed Bacon Brussel Sprouts

A moment of honesty, I’ve never liked Brussel sprouts; I know the shame.

Yes, the horror… Brussels… did I mention bacon and maple syrup? Like most things, I’ve learned to like the Brussel with bacon finished with maple syrup. Never would I ever put maple syrup on Brussels and bacon, but, yes, it’s good.

I’m not a foodie or a food blogger/vlogger etc, but I could do some Brussels and bacon. You know, I might post a few more things beyond the Brussels/bacon, the sous vide ‘meat’… I think I might try and share the trial and tribulations of making a simple donut, some creme brulee and may be a great soft pretzel. Again, take it or leave it, I thought it might be a good experiment or disastrous. Making great internet content.

Look for a few more items to creep into the output section, along with the sous vide adventures. And yes, some fantastic Brussels finished in maple syrup and bacon. Enjoy

Ender 3 Max Neo Filament

Printer Base Stabilization, Adhesion and Print Heights

Filament Everywhere

Lab Work – TPU Speed and Cycle Times

I’d say, a typical print cycle might run between 2-5 hours, may be more, while the norm has been 2-5 hours. Recently, we’ve extended the top run times(longer), to a timeframe just under 12 hours for our test models. Shockingly, both print tests resulted in the following mess.

So, a paper towel holder caused this… twice. At first glance the further the print test progressed into the ‘higher’ portion of the test (meaning as the printout got taller, the print out saw issues). So, somewhere between about inch 4 and 5, both print tests went haywire. I’m starting to think there is shaking issue with the table or even a stabilization issue where the printer lives. Both might be addressed with a singular print of the base slices, the holder ends, screws, rod and washers. Printing these items separately, meaning the pieces and parts to attach the towel roll and the rod. The rod that is slung between the holders can be printed in a secondary or tertiary step; this is where we are headed next. *mitigation issue number one. Or, address the stabilization. The printers ‘live’ where they stand today, so not much I can do to shift those around. Once, I receive new filament, we will print the rod and if it works, great. If not, then step two becomes more tedious. More or less it’s a space issue in the office… Filament should be here later today, I’ll post a quick short summary once I’ve finished up the rod slice, assuming success.

Ironically enough, a similar issue was taking place when I ran TPU through the machine. Although I don’t think they are related, adhesion was the culprit with TPU. Of which we will address in a future post, once we get the correct nozzle temps, print speed and adhesion work around setup correctly. I’m hearing/reading adhesion spray of sorts or glue. Another day, we tackle those 3d printer issues/phantom printing phenomenon.

3d Printer Usage

Best 3d Printers On the market ’23

Halot Sky

Lab Work – 3d Printers

See 3D Poll Below, take part in the ‘who’s who of 3D Printer Manufactures’.

The poll has since closed, what we discovered is interesting. The question was ‘What 3d printers have you used, any success’? We are looking for a TPU thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) filament option printers when we can. Tests with the NEO Max have wavered, mostly unsuccessful, unless we are swapping out filaments. Interesting right?

Generally, we’ve stuck with Creality for sometime, maybe four years or more. Today, we are looking for the best TPU lite printer. Have a suggestion? Dremel we’ve used for cutting and sanding, typical Dremel tool applications… Prusa only in theory as some products we’ve purchased have been made via a Prusa lab or outsource printer. Anyhow, we are looking for feedback or comments, kindly leave your commentary below.

Please note, if you’re looking to swap out resin liners (if you can find the correct ones for CL-89, buy a number of them, cause they are hard to find when the global stock is low).

New Halot Sky LCD

Halot Sky LCD Replacement

Lab Work – LCD Screen

…I know, we started the last post with “Before you start your own 3d printing…”; this post does follow suit. Looks like a bad LCD screen, lcd screen needs to be replaced, same for the film stretched over the resin vat or just some resin damage for that matter.

We swap out the mono LCD screen on the deck of the Halot Sky while we wait for a new FEP resin vat. Please note, if you’re looking to swap out resin liners (if you can find the correct ones for CL-89, buy a number of them, cause they are hard to find when the global stock is low).

Swapped LCD Screen

Swap details: deconstruct, remove all screws, cover and metal panels… careful to disconnect wire and ribbon cable for the touchscreen (just be careful). Replace screen ribbon in the quick connect, construct, careful to replace ribbon and black wire for the touchscreen.

Two, clean up any resin residue, pour over and/spillage now, I think this is where we went wrong. Spillage got under the screen as you can see in the featured image for the article. Have a bottle of alcohol available to make this clean up effort as effortless and easy as it can be. It took about 15-20 mins overall, like I said, lots of spillage. Anyhow, lastly, remove the ribbon tape surround and a few screws gets you access to the LCD screen. Just take your time, easy if you’re careful to not rip the LCD tape, or misplace a screw. You can always find new pieces for lost items, just check out the Spare Parts or our go to for parts over on the eBay Shop. We will have a link to our warez, it’s taking sometime, logistics issue as you can imagine. We sell our wares from time to time there as well. Check em out, we’ve got some Stephen King books up there now. Lastly, for those who just need the FEP release film, and for our future reference – FEP Release Film. A side note, FEP film is apparently hard to find these days, eBay might be your best bet to find spare parts, consumables and film. Cheers.

I thought I would throw this out there, for those of you who don’t understand internet ‘activity’ and how to quickly review, remove, delete and stop activity in it’s tracks.

Quick and easy, hop on the computer of choice, assuming you have Google membership… type in myactivity.google.com. Transformative ‘Cheese’

A Good Read: ‘Who Moved My Cheese’ by Spencer Johnson M.D.

Who Moved My Cheese By Spencer Johnson M.D.

Materials – “Who Moved My Cheese” by Spencer Johnson, M.D>

Let’s cover something I’ve been wanting to cover for awhile now, this book has been referenced for more than 15 years of my life, Who Moved My Cheese” – Spencer Johnson, M.D.

Famous last words, ‘who removes life’s blockers’, well, you do… I’ll be brief, the book is interesting, seemingly shining the preverbal spotlight on ‘change’. I enjoyed the picture developed while various personas worked around “Who Moved My Cheese”. It’s an interesting take on transformation, identifying personal blockers, working through issues, ultimately; how to overcome transform your ‘actions’ either in your personal and professional life. The key here is action, you’ve got to do something, anything; just do something (transform) your activity into actionable, do-able and sustainable outcomes. In this case, finding new paths, ways to find success while identifying pros/cons to looking elsewhere. I’d prefer to stay away from giving the books ‘secret’ away, more importantly this the queue to look up, Who Moved My Cheese” – Spencer Johnson M.D. read the review or commentary on the book and/or download/order the book. This is an unsolicited/unpaid advertisement… so take it for face value. The value is in the read, great little work on transformation.

Finally, look, I’m not a personal growth paperback pusher (or digital read), I thought I would mention it for those of you who like to learn the value of change or in my case, communication via Audible.

As storm seasons come and go, back up batteries, plugs, chargers etc. are always great to have on hand. In the event of a catastrophe, I always like to have a spare or two items (backup wires, charging wires specifically), in order to keep the world turning. I’ve got to dig in a bit more, I posted the OEM battery, as a reminder. However, may be at some point we can cover battery types (OEM or manufactures) for the sat phone. Gone are the days of have a battery or two for the cellular phone.

Camping/Offgrid Charging Option

Lab Work – 9v Charger Hack

Before you start blasting me about wattages, amperage, safety and/or reality etc. I meant to post this back in December, just didn’t get around to it until now. The situation is futile, no power, storm knocked out your power or your car battery died and you’re in a pinch. Phone is dead… and you need a charge? This hack will help you while you are in a pinch away from the comforts of home. Camping? Off-grid? Broken Down?

Typically I stay away from cellphone hacks, but this one is interesting being the start of hurricane season. Having gone through storms, tornados, hurricanes i.e. life without power… sometimes the simplest things can help ‘warm up’ the situation. I’m not saying you should go out and stock up on batteries, clicky-pens, nails and used charger cords… but maybe have a few laying around, in a pinch.

This hack has been around for sometime, some folks say off-grid life and underground living might call for power alternatives, and this one might just be up your alley. In any case, we hacked up a few generic charging cords, spliced those together, added a car charger and a few 9v batteries and voila! We’ve got some juice for the cellphone battery. This hack might work better if you can find a better battery, or even the RC/Drone battery type – looking at 9v, LiCB or 4s/5s LiPos. Whatever the flavor, you might have these items laying around the home, office or shop, depending on your life situation. We have these items around the workshop, so… as you can imagine, these things might come handy in a serious storm or power outage situation.
